Pulling from the archives of history will help to rediscover solutions to modern problems and learn from past mistakes to move forward. In this climate crisis, there is only space for sustainable design practices that use the least amount of new material, minimize chemical processing, and save energy whenever possible. Design must be held accountable for how it interacts with the environment and the natural world. To be mindful in this way helps us as humans understand our own interdependence with our environment. Materials should be ethically and sustainability sourced. This includes humane practices. Being aware of animals role in design can move us towards a less Anthropocentric worldview. Finally, and most importantly design creates an intimate relationship between materials, maker, and user that reminds that we’re all in this together.
